PokePostal Gen 1

I found myself in 2020 wondering what to do for my next Inktober challenge, and the answer became came from a slightly weird place. Inspired by a set of (what I assumed to be) unlicensed stickers my grandmother sent me as a child.

These stickers looked like postage stamps and had painfully pointy edges that jammed under your fingernails when you tried to peel them off the sheet. They were gold, holographic, and had Pokemon on them so of course I loved them. I came across these old stickers in the loft and was hit with the idea to do my own versions, all 151 gen 1 Pokemon, in 31 days, and got planning.

I had never actually drawn Pokemon much, but found the project to be a great outlet to build my understanding of ink drawing techniques and black and white design. Like my Botanical Type series I also created some colouring books and stickers that have been gifted to a number of friends.
